Great to see a deep dive into Kane's incredible work here. Looking forward to that future essay on structure!

Cheers, Harvey. This movie just blew me away. I think KP is a genuine talent. I just hope that Hollywood getting its claws into him doesn't mean he winds up making Exorcist prequels or some other crap.

LOVE KP! Have been following him on YouTube for what seems like years. Sometimes hard to remember he's just a kid.

He just seems to 'get it' from the off, doesn't he? So confident in his technique and vision.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Your deconstruction is spot-on. What an unsettling 50 minutes.

Thank you! Wish I'd had time to go even deeper on this one. In the same way Romero's concept of flesh-eating zombies tapped simultaneously into so many different fears (of crowds, of being eaten, of the apocalypse, of infection, etc), the concept of liminal spaces as popularised by The Backrooms taps into a similar wealth of anxieties. Also, look at how empty and quiet these spaces are - how, well... peaceful! Disconnected from the constant chatter of your phone, cyberspace and other people, family drama, work responsibilities, there's a terrible allure to the horror here. Anyway, thanks again for reading.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. What an amazing watch. My wife was gripping so tight through the whole thing I lost circulation in my arm.

It's great, isn't it! Can't believe more people aren't talking about it. Doesn't seem to have made much of a dent in the 'horror community'. Seems more like an online thing. Anyway, glad you enjoyed, and thanks so much for reading!

Thanks for telling me about him, until this morning, when I read your article, I hadn't even heard of him. I just finished watching a couple hours of video and yes. I'm impressed. Well done horror/suspense, whatever it's called. God given talent is what I call it.

That's great to hear, Daryl! Cheers! I really like recommending this sort of under-the-radar stuff, so it's great to hear folks enjoyed it as much as I did. :D
